One of the northernmost regions, the department of Santander grows nine percent of coffee from Colombia. Santander extends over Colombia's eastern Andes range and its land is divided into two large geographical regions by the Magdalena River Valley.
Colombia has neither the landscape nor space for large-volume industrial farming. Coffee cultivation takes place under shade canopy to protect the coffee trees and the soil. Shade cultivation helps create an environment with more stable and cool temperatures.
This coffee comes directly from family owned, coffee producers Ralf Pohlak and
Carolina Orduz. Over the years, they have invested in improving harvesting techniques and crop quality.
